Interactive Activities – Proficiency Level

Animal Rights- In this activity the students will learn about animal rights and how animals are used to test household products and cosmetics. 

Are Fairy Tales, Legends and Myths Meant Only For Young Children? - In this activity the students are going to read fairy tales, legends and myths from around the world. 

Bedtime Stories - In this activity the students will discuss the bedtime stories they were told as children and find out what makes a good bedtime story. They will be asked to compare and contrast the themes and characteristics of these stories and read some modern and classical stories online.

Computer Crime and Cybercrime - In this activity the students are going to learn about cybercrime, why schools must protect themselves from computer thieves, and how and why schools must make rules to prevent both. In this activity the class will prepare an Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) for their class or school. 

Dangerous Jobs - The students will read about jobs around the world that are dangerous. The students will prepare a poster or multimedia presentation about one job and a speech explaining why the student thinks he/she would be qualified or not for this job.

Food and Films- In this activity the students will explore films in which the theme centers on food. They will examine what effect food has on the characters, plot and development of the film. 

Is There Something Hidden in The Food Label? - The students will be asked to prepare for a debate or a presentation about the correct labeling of packaged food.

Gangs and You - In this activity the students will learn about gangs, their structure and how they influence teens. 

Life in the Age of Global Warming - In this activity the students will learn about global warming and how it affects our world. The students will collect information about the causes of global warming and prepare a persuasive oral presentation showing its impact on the planet, including their solutions to help stop the damage. 

Hoax or Real? - In this activity the students will read about a hoax that actually happened and report what was the hoax, who created it and why.

Today's Horoscope and the Newspaper - In this activity the students will learn about their zodiac signs and will compare and contrast what different media say about their horoscopes for that day. They will discuss whether or not they believe what the horoscope says. 

Inventions - Scavenger Hunts - The students will scan an Internet site to answer questions about inventors and inventions. 

Job Search - In this activity the students will prepare a resumé and use a job search website to look for a job. 

Just for Fun - Here are some activities that your students can do just for the fun of using and learning English: Brainboosters, Top of the Charts, Internet Shopping, Unexplained Mysteries, Be Safe in a Cyber Romance, Crime and Teenagers.

Juvenile Crime - In this activity the students will follow the lives of four juveniles who committed serious crimes in California, USA. 

The Life of Crime Isn't For Everyone - The students will read articles about criminals that were caught by their own stupid mistakes. The students will prepare a short summary of the crime and make suggestions how the criminal could have avoided the mistake. 

Murphy's Law - The students will read stories that represent the concept of Murphy's Law and present personal real-life experiences that reflect it.

Music Reflects the Times - In this activity the students will select a popular musical group or musicians, choose lyrics to one song, identify important events that happened in the musicians’ lifetime, and reflect on the effect these events may have had on the musicians and their music. 

An Ordinary Hero- In this activity the students will learn about ordinary people whose heroic actions made them special. They will be asked to write or present to the class a description of their "ordinary hero".

Do We Really Need All These Products? - In this activity the students will explore how some products which are not really necessary for day-to-day life are advertised. 

Relief Organizations - In this activity the students will investigate the origin, mission, accomplishments and present needs of relief organizations around the world. They will be asked to present their findings to the class. 

A Reason to Build Walls - In this activity the students will learn about a famous wall somewhere in the world. They will do research to find out who built it, its original purpose and its purpose today. 

Saving Animals - In this activity the students will learn about how people use and abuse animals, as well as ways to protect them from abuse.
 
Surviving a Disaster - In this activity, the students will read authentic stories of people who survived terrible natural disasters or human traumas. They will be asked to keep a journal of the author's personal emotions and the events. 

To Blog or Not to Blog - In this activity the students will discuss the positive and negative aspects of blogging. They will start their own blog and add comments to their classmates' blogs. 

Travel Brochure - In this activity the students will prepare a travel brochure about a country or city they would like to visit. 

Wacky Invention - In this activity the students will be looking at drawings of inventions which received patents, many of which are both useless and strange. 

We Didn't Start The Fire - In this activity the students will listen to the song "We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel. They will learn about different historical events in the 20th century and explore how these events influenced other events and history.

Where in the World Can Teens Volunteer? - In this activity the students will learn about organizations that send teenagers to different parts to the world as volunteers.

Who Invented It and When? - The students will learn about inventors and their various inventions, some of which we use every day.
